Diocesan Spirituality Advisor

       Cameron Butland    The Rev’d Canon Cameron Butland is the Diocesan Spirituality Adviser and also the Bishop’s Chaplain. 
Cameron works with the Cumbria Ecumenical Spirituality Group (CESG).
CESG  is responsible to the church leaders and denominations through Churches Together in Cumbria. 
The group works to promote spirituality on behalf of the churches,
encouraging all Christians ‘to give an account of the hope that is within them’.

Cameron has been ordained for thirty years working previously in Lichfield and Oxford dioceses.  During all that time he has been involved in teaching and tutoring those in training, specializing in church history.  Previously he complied a book on resources for work and faith entitled ‘Work in Worship’. He regularly leads various quiet days and courses on prayer and spirituality. In 2013 he published ‘Walking into Celtic Spirituality’ encouraging people to discover the richness of the Christian heritage.  In addition he leads courses of on Silent Prayer and Prayer of the Heart.
 

Development Aims of Spirituality in Cumbria

The Cumbria Ecumenical Spirituality Group aim to:
  1. assist our churches to reclaim their hidden treasury of spiritual insights and learning
  2. offer talks, quiet days, courses and insights into the inner life to our fellow clergy and to parishes
  3. we delve into the rich heritage of writings and teachings of the great teachers of the spiritual life as well as introducing some more contemporary writers
  4. we seek to discern the link between spirituality and the gospel in daily living.

2019 Programme

There are a variety of Quiet Days and courses run during the year.  Look out for the Rydal Hall programme.

The Cumbria Ecumenical Spirituality Group will be offering a Training Course in Spiritual Direction starting in April 2019. More details from the CESG Secretary,  Helen Brocklehurst: cesg@lunesdale.community

CESG offers support  to groups of churches, especially in support of the Ecumenical County.  Anyone wanting help or advice should contact Cameron.
